Bloggers Unite: Blogging For Hope

Today is Bloggers Unite Day by Blog Catalog and I've chosen to write about my favorite charity, the One Laptop Per Child initiative by Fuse Project. Designed by Yves Béhar, these beautiful laptops bring education to thousands of children in developing countries.

This charity appeals to me because I cannot live without my own laptop, as it has made life in a foreign land so much easier with instant access to Google Maps, Currency Coverters and of course my word processing program which allows me to write and stay sane.

Everyone has the right to a good education. Unfortunately, life is unfair and many children in the developing world have no access to what the rest of us own as a basic necessity, such as a computer. By purchasing one laptop, a second laptop will go to an underprivileged child. Click here to read more about this project in the International Herald Tribune.

For today's Bloggers Unite campaign, Blog Catalog has partnered with Amnesty International, a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights for all. Check out their site to read about other projects that may interest you today.

Such a great idea, thanks for the post! I did a post on a similar group, called SPLAT if I remember correctly, but they did similar type of work. It's just a fantastic idea.
